The Brive Run, which was scheduled to gather a thousand kids on Friday, has been canceled due to the heat

The organizers did not hesitate for long: on Tuesday, June 14, CAB Athlé decided to cancel the Courir à Brive children’s races, which were scheduled to gather a thousand young runners on Friday, June 17, in Bouriottes, between Brive and Malemort (Correz) from the hour 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM

It is the intense heat wave that will strike, especially in Correz, as of tomorrow, Wednesday, June 15th, which explains this decision.

Météo-France announced a very early heat wave this week

The organizers posted the information on their Facebook page mid-morning Tuesday:

“Due to the heat wave, the June 17 event has been cancelled. We are obligated to take this decision to avoid putting children and those around them at risk. All those who have already registered will be compensated as soon as possible. As soon as possible. As much as possible. Thank you for your understanding,” write the organizers.

“The decision of the president, who is also a doctor,” identifies Thomas Chambon, who knows that Météo France announces that the temperature has risen to 39 degrees Celsius in Correz on Friday.

“We were looking for solutions, changing the schedule, cooling the kids, getting more shade…but it just doesn’t make sense. It’s not a running temperature. We thought of postponing the race to next week, but it looks like it’s too complicated…”

Races that do not comply with the prohibition regulations

The club had already made 640 records at the start of the week and was counting on the presence of 1,000 youngsters aged between 5 and 14. Depending on their age, the participants had to travel between 700 meters and 2 kilometers. An effort that does not comply with the prevention instructions issued by state services since the beginning of the week.

Disappointment worth the energy invested

Clearly, the organizers were disappointed. “We have been preparing for this race for a long time, with new features, such as running in Buryots, offering activities to discover athletics…we believe in it, with this formula.” The separation of children’s and adult races may be on the program again in 2023. “We won’t lose all the work we’ve done,” Thomas Chambon reassures.

The last Courir à Brive for kids was held in 2019. That year, it was rain that spoiled the party a bit.
