At the start of Pride Month, representatives of the Ohio Republican Party passed legislation to exclude transgender children from playing sports. Text ” Women’s Sports Rescue Act Hiding behind purported protections for women’s sports in schools, students participating in sports competitions who are suspected of being transgender are actually subjected to tests to verify their gender.

If the text becomes law, children who will be designated by the opposing team as potential transgender people will have to present a certificate by a doctor who will examine their genitals by pelvic examination (an internal examination of the genitals), but also their level of endogenous testosterone production as well as their genotype to the child by a blood test. In short, a shock test that flatly excludes transgender children, as well as all other girls or young women who present a harmless genetic variation in their hormone or chromosome levels from any athletic competition in school.

Transphobia has become one of the main themes that has been exploited by the far right and all reactionary forces, and with the midterm elections approaching, these attacks tend to increase with Republicans constantly creating a new moral panic to make new transgender people. “The enemy is within.”

Recently, there are more than 300 legislation, many of which have been passed, in the red states that primarily attack LGBT people. Many laws target transgender children by restricting access to transitional care, sports competitions, changing gender in marital status, or making gender transitional care a reportable “abuse” that can result in the withdrawal of custody of the child from the parents. If the assembly that might authorize this provision does not meet until next November, and the future of the law is uncertain, it is part of a series of attacks that are having a profound impact on the living conditions of transgender people across the United States. .

The attacks come on the heels of the unprecedented attack on reproductive rights with the Roe v. Wade ruling being called into question, impeding access to abortion in many states. These are blanket attacks on the independence of our bodies that come during the Biden administration, and with the Democratic majority in Congress. The same Democrats who are still helpless in the face of this reactionary onslaught, whether it be an attack on transgender rights or assaults on abortion rights, who only claim they want to offer a “safe haven” to transgender youth in blue states and passively wait for the midterms. Elections in November.

As Madeline Freeman, our companion from left voicesister organization permanent revolution in the United States of America :

But we can’t wait until November. In a few weeks, tens of millions of people will not have access, even limited ones, to the health care that, without a doubt, saves lives. For decades, politicians have convinced us that we are powerless to stop these attacks. They tell us to take our anger and fear to the polls, election after election, to make sure that even the nominal right to abortion is not taken away.

But we can’t hold our breath anymore. It’s time to raise a strong, united cry to defend our right to choose what we do with our bodies and our future. And that means tackling the Supreme Court, the Senate, the stalling, and every undemocratic state action that stands in our way.

Gay rights and the right to abortion can only be won on the streets, independently, without relying on the electoral calculations of Democrats in the United States. Here in France, where the same reactionary rhetoric is spreading in the rally, the media, during presidential elections by far-right candidates, but also by groups of activists who claim feminism, it is important to remember the importance of a strong feminist and LGBT movement. Transgender, transgender and intersex individuals are independent of any state institution, which positions itself firmly in self-determination against all reactionary attitudes that advocate a narrow vision of society and gender, and that fundamentalizes and reduces women to biological norms and the concept of fertility.
