Children’s Day in Poland with singer Kasia Sokochowska’s lover!

On the occasion of International Children’s Day, lepetitjournal.com has decided to offer its young readers an encounter with the teacher all children dream of: Kasia Sokołowska, who is also a singer and musician in her working hours. Polish, Kasia fell in love with the French language at that age when others set their sights on trendy rock bands and this language turned her life upside down, opening the way for her to teach but also to sing, always accompanied by his guitar!

June 1st: International Children’s Day in Poland

You know, it’s Children’s Day, June 1 ! “These words taste like a delicious dessert,” says Emilia, a 7-year-old French-Polish girl, implying: Today is my day, movie day at school, for an overdose of cake and for the lucky ones, gifts ! Back in the day International Children’s Day, as that’s what it’s officially called!

International Children’s Day was first declared in Geneva at the World Conference on the Rights of the Child in 1925. Since 1950, in the former communist countries, it is celebrated on June 1.

Elsewhere, Universal Children’s Day is celebrated on November 20 To celebrate the Declaration of the Rights of the Child adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on November 20, 1959.

Lepetitjournal.com/varsovie: Kasia Sokołowska, you are a French teacher, singer, musician, what made you learn French? Is this the language of your business today?

Kasia Sokołowska: It was my high school teacher who passed on to me the love of French, it was in the ’90s, we couldn’t travel like now, there was a whole context! I started my apprenticeship in high school (a bit late compared to my two or three year old students when they started). I had a wonderful teacher, Danuta, to give her first name only, passionate about her profession and also encouraged me to go to France. I literally fell in love with this language. After high school, I went to France, again thanks to Danuta, and worked as an au pair, which was a rarity in the late ’90s.

What a luck: I was welcomed into the French aristocracy, lived in a castle … What a contrast to a young girl who came from Poland hardly outside the PRL period.

Subsequently, Romanian philology studies in Wroclaw and Lublin followed, and then careers at Givko, Reno and the Total Group. When my daughter was born, everything changed and I decided to teach French to children and teenagers, so I created a language school: Dzieci na językach francuski od najmłodszych lat.

Today, I consider myself a singer and composer as well as a teacher. It was a long process because for years I considered music just a passion. And then I jumped!

Kasia Sokolowska

What is your relationship with the French language? What place do you occupy in your life?

French has an essential place in my life. I love it and I know my students feel this passion.

Sometimes I think I was French in my past life! Although I also sing and sing in Polish, I prefer doing it in French, I don’t know why, but that’s what happens!

Music in general occupies a very important part of my life. Honestly, with small exceptions, I only listen to French music and all styles. I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but the French composition is very different from what happens in English or Polish, so I always dive into French music so that I can compose in my turn, “à la française”! I’m always looking for inspiration and I sing all the time…

How is the album? Hedgehogs and butterflies Was he born?

From the very beginning that I teach French, my guitar has always accompanied me during my lessons. I was creating songs and immediately found that the kids remembered them very quickly. At the time I didn’t know where it came from…

Then the professionals explained to me that I had a special talent for connecting songs and melodies. The result is that my songs stay in the head and make learning easier. Parents of students or fellow teachers often ask me where do I find these songs, online or in an album? I was saying they weren’t available because they were my own songs…

My dream, as I understood, was to make an album, but I did not know how to achieve it!

You should never be discouraged: 6 years ago I went to the studio with a song but the studio director stopped me saying I wasn’t playing percussion – which may be true, but I gave it up… Yet it was always in my head and 2 years ago I said to myself:

Come on Kasia do it! And suddenly, one small miracle after another appeared … It’s always like this in life, when you begin to do something, the doors open and people appear. You just have to start – even if you are very afraid …

Who collaborated in developing the album?

The list is long! I can not imagine ” Hedgehogs and butterflies Without Andre Rigman and Chris Chitoli.

When I decided to make this album, I wrote to a composer, songwriter: Polish Improv Andrei Rigman (whose music touches my deepest cells), in order to plead for his help and play the piano in a few songs. Andrei listened to them, said he would help me, plus he wanted to be my album art director! I couldn’t believe it… and even today I still can’t believe it! Especially since our cooperation has developed very well. He became my coach and I made a great friend!

The second person who played an important role in this project is Chris Chitoli– singer, vocal coach, with whom I initially took singing lessons! Finally I also found myself in his studio recording 12 of my songs! Chris sings some with me.

I would also like to quote: Joshua Sizesa Belgian singer (her stage name is Mintoft), Mamadou b Senegalese living in Poland, singer, actor in Teatr Powszechny; without forgetting Przymek and Jzechowski, A very talented accordion player, Agnieszka Primas who plays the kora (Senegalese instrument between harp and guitar), Laurent Vavon on the harmonica Peter Primas to percussion. Let’s add so as not to forget anyone: Rafai Smolensky who arranged some songs and Insati . studio Who made this beautiful cover!

Plus, I totally wanted my students – My first support, sing with me! The studio director came to the school to record it.

In total, the album consists of 14 songs; I wrote eight of them, there are two by Joshua Kezio, three French songs and a traditional Senegalese song – Mamadou’s mother sang it to him when he was a child and my students loved it.

Would you agree if I said it was a children’s album or is this too restrictive?

It may be too limited! I wanted it not only for children, but for everyone: for students who are learning French, for teachers because in the songs there are vocabulary, grammatical structures and verbs that can be worked out well during language lessons. But above all, I wanted it to be an album that people would enjoy listening to, whatever their age! And I have the impression that it is rather successful …

Earth ”, for example, imperative – environmentally responsible, attractive and has everything that pleases her, including adults!

the song ” Earth Written and written by Józwa Czyż, better known by her stage name: Mintoft. I heard this song during his concert and fell in love with it. I asked Joshua if he wanted to sing it with me on my recording. There is another song by him: beaver and fox “.

Who are the singers who have also composed for children who have inspired you?

I love Alain le Lait songs, and we often sing them with students, Anne Sylvestre, Henri Dés, and Pierre Lozère.

Are you saying that it is necessary to work on your voice, especially for a teacher whose vocal cords use a lot?

The sound reflects who we are. Everything we feel, what we experience at a particular moment, we can hear in the sound if we are aware of it. Works with specific techniques such as breathing. For example, with my voice, I’m honestly impressed with the developments I’ve seen, thanks to the singing lessons I’ve had and I’m still learning today with Chris Chittoli. Even in my daily life as a teacher, it has changed my life: before I always had a sore throat, even a loss of voice, today it is a bad memory… It’s the sound of the psychological side crazy!

I didn’t realize, when I started creating my album, how much work was ahead of me, but now I see that this project has profoundly changed me, thanks to the fact that my voice has improved and I am more aware of how to use it.

Do you have an offer you would like to tour Poland?

yes ! I’ve already started with a small concert for La Fontaine’s Kindergarten. The La Fontaine Foundation helped me financially to realize my dream and so I wanted to thank it!

On June 4, I am happy to sing during the competition for the finalists of the French Poetry, Song and Theater Festival organized by the Association of French Educators Professor Europe, and to tell the truth, this event is the beginning of a series of concerts already planned for the month of June. Children’s parties with Hedgehogs and butterflies “But also with a repertoire for adults with my own compositions and some songs.
