wonder book It is a cooperative game in which each player embodies one of these children, through an adventure in six chapters. Each character has its own miniature (in . format). chibi And Kauai) and specific skills (hitter, healer, etc.). Each class is represented by a deck of about forty cards. But the main element of the game is the book.

The first chapter, which serves as an introduction to the universe, the script, but above all the rules, is played on the back cover of the book, like a game board, we read the cards one by one. Some tell the story, others explain where to place the various items on the board, etc. So you get a theme card, which details what players need to do to progress.

In turn, they have three moves, to move, use a skill, attack a monster, interact with a card, etc. Then it was the turn of the enemies, the bad guys and symbolizes, to represent. Monsters and villains, just approach the heroes to beat them. The number of new appearances and symbolizes The actions they take are determined by the deck of cards.

The towers follow each other and this is how heroes act and then enemies. If you accomplish a goal, you read the rest of the adventure. Choices are sometimes made (morals from time to time: do we want to help the dragon break out of or benefit from the kindness of a pure soul?), which leads to different branches in the story. When the hero loses the last point of his life, he gets them all back, but we return the hourglass token. The match ends in victory if the last goal is achieved, or ends in defeat if there are no more hourglasses left.

But it’s the second chapter that really marks the beginning of the game, and brings you great originality wonder book : his pop-up book. In fact, from now on, games are played inside the book, which reveals a large tree in relief when opened. We also see items that we can drag and unlock, but all of this can only be manipulated when the script asks us to.

The parties follow each other as well, following the story through the six seasons. If we lose, we start again, if we win, we move on to the next stage.

Why are you playing wonder book ?

The pop-up book is clearly the center of attention, and it’s really quite successful. The tree in Chapter Two is already impressive, but it’s far from impressive Wonderful When we touch on the sixth (which we don’t reveal to you in a picture so as not to spoil the surprise). It is the work of an Italian specialist in the genre and it shows. The rest of the materials should not be ashamed, especially the very beautiful figurines. Even if, let’s face it, their base is too wide to fit many on board squares (small wooden cubes were more practical, but obviously less attractive).

But what about the mechanics, the story? Depends on.

This depends on who you are playing with. Mechanically, the game is very simple, very family friendly. You never need to go back to the rule book, everything is clear and transparent and the games are flowing. But the very childish scenario can leave you hungry. We cannot recommend it if you plan to play it with adults only. With kids on the other hand (between the ages of 8 and 12), they will be amazed. Everything was done to make them hang: heroes of their era, beautiful material, a story to follow, and of course the book’s notable pages.

The popup still adds a huge impact to the game’s price, which goes up to €60 (like all books of this genre, much more expensive than the classic one). Once the six seasons are over, you can start the game again, and make other choices, which leads to a different outcome. But the element of surprise is gone. It is up to you to find out if it is worth the effort to play it with your kids. In our opinion, clearly yes if your budget allows it.

wonder book So it’s a very nice, original family game, with action, a story to follow, lots of opportunities, and great material. If we have some reservations about adult play, due to its overly simplistic scenario, on the other hand, it’s very nice to play as a family with your kids.
