How the virtual world and the real world mix, and what are the core issues for companies.
The concept of the metaverse remains mysterious and remote, and is often defined as a parallel universe, made up of virtual worlds. However, this concept is not new because it was first described in the novel “Simulacron 3” by Daniel Galouye, which was published in the United States in 1964. The term, derived from the contraction of meta and the universe, is regularly used to describe a future version of the Internet, where the One enjoys, exchanging, working and transacting via NFT in particular. Second Life, in the early 2000s, paved the way as the pioneer of a micropayment-based social and economic platform, where users have the intellectual property of their creations, and are free to build their own spaces and communities. But in recent months, this new trend has become in demand everywhere: in luxury in particular, but not only. Many companies, such as Meta (formerly Facebook) or Microsoft, are making huge investments there. Creating immersive 3D spaces, new generation events, 3D merchandising, selling virtual products or artworks, augmented reality, avatar, … represents for businesses? Also what are the limits? One thing is for sure, if they don’t all have a clear strategy in this area yet, most are convinced that they can’t stay by the wayside.
